Hand and Measuring Tools

Mach 1 course prepares the maritime students with the appropriate skills to safely carry out maintenance and repair on board using hand tools and
measuring tools. It will tackle safety and appropriate use of hand and measuring tools for fabrication and repair. All throughout the course, the
students will be constantly assessed with theoretical and practical assessment both formative and summative as evidence of their ability to
use hand and measuring tools appropriately. At the end of the course, the students are expected to fabricate metal projects using the tools and
materials provided.

Here is the class outline:

This topic will identify the safety precautions in handling tools and measuring instruments commonly used onboard as per Safety Management System (SMS). 2. Explain the hazards in handling hand tools in the machine shop as per SMS. 3. Explain the proper housekeeping to practice in the machine shop in relation to the ship’s working environment. 4. Correctly identify the various types of hand tools, machine tools and measuring instruments commonly found onboard. 5. Explain the appropriate general application of the hand tools, machine tools and measuring instruments
